India - An Emerging Destination for IVF Treatment
    By Sain
    What is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is the most efficient and most common type of assisted reproductive technology (ART) to help women become pregnant.

The IVF procedure involves fertilization of an egg present inside the body, is taken out of the body in a laboratory dish, and then implanting it in a female’s uterus.

In a normal pregnancy, a male sperm penetrates into a female’s egg and fertilizes it inside the body after ovulation – when there is a release of mature egg from ovaries. The fertilized egg (now an embryo) then attaches itself to the wall of the uterus (womb) and begins transforming into a full grown human body i.e. baby. This is known as natural conception.

However, some women are not able to become pregnant through unassisted conception or normal and they have to undergo fertility treatment to become pregnant. This technique is known as IN VITRO FERTILIZATION.

IVF is a technique adopted by the female when the less expensive fertility programs does not bring any effectiveness in their pregnancy. According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), about 1% of U.S. infants are conceived by the help of IVF. To date, by the help of IVF to approximately 5 million births happened. In a country like India where the young population is very high the demand for IVF is gaining pace.

Benefits Of Getting the IVF Treatments In India:

Every year, thousands of patients from different country of different health condition and suffering from different diseases flock to the country to get treatment from renowned specialists in cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkata and many others. Here are few of the reasons why India has become one of the top destinations for IVF treatments:

Low-cost treatment options compared to other Western countries.
Availability of state-of-the-art technology, which cost much more in advanced countries like the UK,US etc.
Use of cutting-edge techniques to treat infertility.
Experienced IVF specialists who are just as skilled as the doctors in first world countries.
Helpful medical tour consultants to help international patients find the best hospitals and most reputed medical experts in the country.
    IVF Treatments Costs In India:

This is the second question comes to every patient’s mind after selecting an IVF centre. We have discussed a basic structure of the rates. Please keep in mind rates are subject to change as per hospitals, spread across the nation.

Rates For the Basic IVF Treatment:

For a single IVF session, the average cost in India is approximately $3820. This is not fixed, as it is possible that the cost can go up as high as $6875 for one single cycle of the treatment.

    Rates For Advanced Treatments:

If a the patient requires advanced technological assistance in IVF, the cost of IVF can go much higher. For instance example, an ICSI treatment will require an additional $2292 to $3820. An Frozen Embryo Transfer procedure will cost patients about $1834 extra from the IVF cost in India.

    IVF History:-

IVF has been used since the late 1970’s. On 25 July 1978, the first test-tube baby, Louise Brown was born. Doctor Robert Edwards and Doctor Patrick Steptoe were both responsible for the birth and are considered to be the pioneers of IVF.

In 2010, Robert Edwards was awarded with nobel prize for the successful invention of In Nitro Fertilization.

First IVF baby using next generation DNA sequencing born, Louise Brown - in July 2013, an American couple had their first baby child by this technique of reimbursement of DNA. This is a new way of screening embryos that improves IVF success rates and significantly reduces the cost of treatment. DNA sequencing technology helps modern doctors to screen embryos created by the help of IVF to identify those most likely to lead to successful pregnancies.

Some countries banned or otherwise regulate the availability of IVF treatment, gives rise to fertility tour values for the pregnant woman.IVF is a type of assisted reproductive technology, in which a fertilized egg is implanted into a surrogate’s uterus, have been used for the infertility treatment and gestational surrogation and the resultant baby is genetically unrelated to the surrogate. Restrictions on availability of IVF include huge costs and the age to carry a healthy pregnancy to term. The IVF is most likely attempted when less invasive or expensive options have failed or are unlikely to work.

The Practice Committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine advise that the sperm washing is not necessary in IVF to prevent transmission in males dealing with hepatitis B unless the female partner has not been effectively vaccinated. She gave birth in 2004 at the age of 66, a record passed in 2006. After the IVF treatment, many couples are able to get pregnant without any fertility treatments due to IVF Treatment. In 2012 it was estimated that five million children had been born worldwide using IVF and other assisted reproduction techniques. With egg donation and IVF, female who were past their reproductive years or have reached menopause can still become pregnant. Adriana Iliescu held the record as the oldest woman to give birth using IVF and donated egg.

Louise Brown successfully delivered the first test tube aby in 1978. Louise Brown was born as a result of natural cycle IVF where no stimulation was made. Robert G. Edwards was awarded noble prize for successful invention of IVF with help of the co-worker Steptoe. (Steptoe was not eligible for consideration as the Nobel Prize is not awarded posthumously). The hidden risk of vertical transmission during IVF is same as the risk in spontaneous conception in females with hepatitis B. However, in regard to vertical transmission to the offspring, there is not evidence to say that ICSI procedures are safe for females with hepatitis B. By sperm washing, the risk that a chronic disease in the male providing the sperm would infect the female or offspring can be brought to negligible levels.

    Hello,
Infertility is the common problem many couples are facing. There are many different infertility reasons in men and women. Common women infertility issues are PCOS, endometriosis, hormonal imbalance and blocked Fallopian tubes. In men by doing semen analysis you can diagnose whether they are suffering from zero sperm count, low sperm count etc.

Infertility is a big problem around the world. Most of the people around the world are infertile. So the couples who are infertile think that they cannot have their own baby. But let’s not lose hope so easily. With the advancement in science and technology, everything has been made easier. Now there are solutions related to Infertility. The best solutions related to Infertility are Surrogacy and IVF. These two treatments are going neck and neck. But if we compare both of them then surely Surrogacy is the best. Why? Because its success rate is so high. There is a greater chance of having your own baby. Although the costs of these treatments are high they still are important to every infertile couple. They are stressful for some time but not after the result. So I don’t think that these things should be given importance.

Infertility is a curse. It is a devastating disese. A woman loses all her hope at this time. Infertility is not easy to deal with. I have seen many couples facing infertility. The one who keep try and seek out for solution always get success. Infertility is not a big issue nowadays. Many cures for infertility has been introduced. Medical science is growing in the ground of infertility. Treatments like IVF and surrogacy has been introduced for infertility. They are a blessing of science. I have seen many couples who became parents through these treatments. They are the most successful treatments. I friend of mine faced infertility. She faced three miscarriages after her marriage. She came to know about treatment named surrogacy. She took surrogacy and got success in having a child. She is enjoying a happy parental life now. `

I agree with you. I can feel the pain of infertility. I know how it kills someone from inside. I know surrogacy is very expensive in the world. But there are some clinics in Europe. They offer free accommodation and free travelling. It depends on your research. You can opt for any clinic there. But make sure you choose the right clinic. Anyhow, India is also in this race now. But I have no idea of their rates. I never heard anything from someone. But I wish them the best of luck. And I want every country to be a part of this race. God bless everybody.

Yes, dear, you are very right. These treatments are really very expensive. Well, it’s not complex. There are many clinics that are dealing with it in a wonderful way. Though it’s very expensive. I was even the one suffering from infertility. I tried my best to make a budget to afford such treatment. Dear, it was impossible for me. Then I opt for adoption. That’s also a good experience. The main fear in adoption is that maybe one day when the child know that I am not the real mother. They will leave. I didn’t tell my son that he is adopted. So that’s the complication of adoption. It is really very difficult to survive without children also. I wish no one remain infertile in this world.
